Our gift wrap guide for the prettiest presents
The air is getting crisper, the sun setting earlier. We’ve seen our first snowflakes and wish lists are starting to appear around here too. As we get ready to fill the space under our tree, we’re thinking about fun and creative ways to present the presents. Wrapping gifts feels like an opportunity to make something beautiful—and that’s the type of thing that gets us excited.
With the right materials and a few quick tips, you can get your gifts looking so good people will hesitate to open them in the first place! Best of all, you can stretch out that special gift-giving feeling with wrapping that feels like a present all on its own.
Patterned papers make for excellent gift wrap. For a cohesive look, decide on a color scheme beforehand—there are so many options these days, best to go in with a vision. Pull together designs of different scales—some larger patterns and some smaller—to add interest when the gifts are together under the tree. Stripes and tartan never go out of style.
Can’t find a pattern you love? Plain, colored paper works well too. Of course you can always go with reds and greens, but we love opting for more muted earthy tones and bringing a pop of color with ribbons, bows or other adornments. Layer a thin ribbon overtop a thicker one for a sophisticated look or tie on a photo from the year for a more personal touch.

Our top gift-wrapping tip?
No matter what paper you decide to go with, the most important thing is getting crisp corners and tight folds. Think of it like turning down a bed—tucked in and neat, neat, neat. Before you start wrapping, fold over any raw edges of the paper to make sure all sides are straight and clean. When it comes to fastening, clear plastic tape is always an option, but glue tabs or adhesive strips can make for an even sharper presentation.
When it comes to the final touch, there are so many ways to add some charm to an already wrapped gift. Ribbons are classic—we love velvet or satin for a fancy feel. Baker’s twine or butcher’s cotton will give a more natural vibe, and it’s hardy enough for attaching a sprig of pine or other greenery. Adding little bits and bobs such as miniature bells, handwritten letters, small toys or dried citrus is our favorite way to customize gifts. Who doesn’t love a little bonus trinket?!
This year, we say: go beyond the ordinary wrap job. Get creative with the gifts that you give and have fun with the wrapping process, too. We can personally recommend not waiting until the last minute. Instead, delight in the magic of Christmas and turn what could be a chore into a fun night. Set up your space and enjoy the process–complete with a glass of wine or cup of tea, of course.
Happy wrapping!
Xx Liv
