Antique English cupboard

This cupboard comes in two parts and opens up to a surprisingly roomy inside. The top half has a deep shelf with plenty of space above and below it, and the bottom half has its own shelf over a wide open floor. The backs are made of upright pine boards. The doors swing on small metal hinges, close with brass catches and each has a round wooden knob. A deep stepped molding runs along the top.

The pine has aged to a honey brown, with the inside a shade paler. A long crack runs down one lower door and the edges are scuffed from a long working life. It’s big enough to take over a whole wall, so it would suit a dining room, a mudroom or a kitchen that needs serious storage.
