Antique French console table

This console is long and narrow, with a single small drawer in the middle and a wooden knob to pull it open. The top overhangs slightly at each end, and four tapered legs carry it at a good height. The wood has a deep chocolate-brown finish that lets the grain show through along the top and the sides.

The surface has the soft marks and rubbed edges of a table that has seen a lot of daily life, and the finish has deepened with time and handling. It’s slim enough for a hallway, but it would be just as good behind a sofa or along a dining room wall.
