Antique landscape in wooden frame

This antique painted landscape shows a still lake that glows under a warm amber sky. A wooded hill rises from the water in soft golds and browns, and a little house peeks out from the trees on the right. Rocks and tufts of grass sit along the shore in the front. The whole scene has a hazy, early evening feel that is lovely and calm. It sits in a wooden frame painted gold that has a deep border of raised scrolling leaves.

The weave of the canvas shows through the paint and the gold on the frame has worn gently at the edges. Years of polish and hanging have given it real warmth. It's a nice size for a cozy reading corner or a stairway wall, and it would look lovely grouped with other small landscapes.
