Antique oil moody landscape painting

This painting looks across a quiet field to a cluster of cottages with a deer standing in the grass out front. The colors are mossy greens, olive and soft gold, with a heavy, cloudy sky overhead and dark trees leaning in on either side. The paint is thin and a little rubbed in places, which gives the whole scene a hazy, half-remembered feel.

A plain wooden frame with a chalky, whitewashed finish surrounds it. The paint on the frame has worn back at the edges and corners, and the canvas shows the soft dullness of a picture that has hung in a few different homes. It would suit a cozy reading corner, a kitchen wall or a spot over a bedroom dresser.
