Antique oil on canvas - horse and cart in the countryside

This antique oil on canvas shows a horse and cart making its way along a country track. Tall dark trees rise up on one side and a grassy bank leads the eye out to pale green fields beyond. Most of the canvas is given over to a huge grey sky where soft white clouds glow pink near the horizon. It sits in a deep gold frame that has two bands of beaded detail around the edges.

Fine crackling runs across the paint and the gold on the frame has rubbed back in places. Both are the natural marks of a painting that has hung on walls for generations. It has real presence and would anchor a living room wall or hang beautifully over a mantel.
