Antique painted pine blanket box

This blanket box is painted a soft chocolate brown, with a lid made of wide boards and a curved, scrolled arm rising at each end. The corners are joined with small visible dovetails, a keyhole sits at the front of the lid, and a moulded base runs around the bottom. Iron strap hinges hold the lid, and a thin chain stops it from swinging too far back.

Inside, the pine is a warm orange-honey, with a small divided section at one end for smaller things. The paint has worn back along the edges and base where it has been shifted and knocked about, and there’s a crack in one of the lid boards. At seat height, it works as a bench at the end of a bed or in an entryway, and it would also do as a coffee table with blankets or toys stored inside.
