Antique Irish pine wardrobe

This tall pine wardrobe has two panelled doors, each with two long raised panels and a round wooden knob, under a deep cornice. Inside, a central upright splits the space into two hanging sections, each with its own rail and a pair of black iron coat hooks along the back. Four drawers sit below in two rows of two, each with a turned knob and a small keyhole plate, and the whole piece stands on short, plain feet.

The pine has a warm honey tone with a waxed sheen on the doors, while the drawer fronts are paler and more weathered. Knots, nail holes and soft rubbed edges show where it was handled through a long working life. It is only about a foot and a half deep, so it slips into a bedroom corner or hallway, and the hooks and drawers keep coats, clothes and linens in order.
