Antique pine painted chest of drawers

This Victorian pine chest has been painted in a deep black. A tall scalloped back with two small shelves rises behind the top, which has a gently curved edge. Two short drawers sit over two long ones, and each has a round wooden knob and a small keyhole.

It stands on chunky turned bun feet. The paint has softened and worn in places, leaving a surface that looks as though it has been handled for generations. The scalloped back gives it an old washstand look, so it would work well as a bedroom dresser or an entryway chest, or as a dark, solid piece in a pale room.
