English pine plate rack with hooks

This rack has slim upright slats that hold plates on their edge, with a narrow ledge along the front to stop them slipping. Below sits a backboard of vertical planks with a row of black iron hooks along a shaped, wavy edge, and the curved sides finish the top corners. Everything is made from pine.

The wood has mellowed to a deep golden brown, with knots, a few nail holes and the soft marks of a long life in a kitchen. It would hold everyday plates above a counter, and the hooks are just right for mugs, jugs or tea towels. It would also look good in a dining room or pantry with a few favorite pieces of crockery on show.
