European oil on canvas - castle on a lake

A stone castle sits at the water's edge beneath tall misty mountains, and its tower catches the soft light. A small rowboat with two figures drifts across the still lake, and a lone figure stands on the shore nearby. Tall trees and patches of purple heather fill the bank on the right, and a faint white sail shows in the distance. The painting sits in a deep gilt frame with swirling carved ornament and a beaded inner edge.

The canvas has a warm, mellow tone and some light crackle across the surface. The frame has small losses and rubbing to the gilding, the kind of wear a frame picks up over a long life of being admired. It would make a lovely focal point in a living room or study, and it would also sit beautifully above a fireplace or a chest of drawers.
