Floral oil on canvas

This still life shows a loose bunch of red and orange poppies in a round blue vase, set on a white cloth against a dusky green-gray background. The brushwork is soft and textured, and there’s a signature in the lower right corner. The painting is done on board and sits in a deep frame covered in raised scrolls and leaves, finished in aged gold.

The gilding has darkened and rubbed back in places, and there are chips at a few corners where the plaster shows through. It’s small enough to prop on a shelf or mantel, and it would also hold its own in a gallery wall or over a bedside table.
