French basket with handle

This French wicker basket has a generous oval shape and a tall arched handle that's easy to grab. A thick cane rim runs around the top, and it has darkened to a warm honey color where hands have held it. Below the rim, the pale wicker is woven in loose rows. Neat wrapped bindings hold the handle in place on each side and tie off the rim at both ends.

The handle and rim have light marks and scuffs from use, but the weave is sound and the basket feels sturdy. It's good for carrying flowers in from the garden or it works just as well on a shelf holding throws or bits and bobs.
