French confit pot

This stoneware confit pot has a rounded body and a loop handle on each side. Three thin rings circle the neck just below the rim. A glossy brown glaze covers most of the pot and fades into gray clay in places. There's a warm orange band near the base and a few pale drips of glaze running down from the top.

Kiln marks, dark smudges and little speckles show all over the surface. They're the natural quirks of a pot fired the old-fashioned way. It's lovely next to the stove holding wooden spoons, and it works just as well for a loose bunch of garden flowers or on an open shelf with other old pottery.
