Irish antique pine press

This tall Irish press has four panelled doors, two over two, with two small drawers across the middle and a row of tiny carved notches along the underside of the cornice. Each door has a wooden knob and a keyhole. The base is cut into curved bracket feet.

Inside, the upper cupboard has a shelf with a scalloped front edge in front of a back of upright boards, and the lower cupboard has a plain shelf above a floor of wide planks. The upper and lower cupboards are separated by two small drawers. The pine has mellowed to a soft honey, with knots, dark patches inside and the scuffs and rubbed edges of a well-loved past. It suits a kitchen or dining room as a pantry cupboard, or a hallway or bedroom where you need tall storage.
