Vintage hand broom

This little vintage hand broom has a wooden handle that years of use have smoothed and turned soft gray. Thick wire wraps hold the straw bristles tight at the neck, and a wire loop at the top lets it hang from a hook or the edge of a shelf. Two rows of stitching run across the bristles. One is bright blue and the other is white, fading to pink where it's tied off.

The bristles have splayed and frayed in places, which is what happens to a broom that has done real work. It's still sturdy enough to sweep the hearth or brush off a workbench, but it looks just as good hanging in a mudroom or by the fireplace.
